The BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) are an international economic and political alliance that is some of the world’s most powerful and influential countries. Brazil, the most populous of the BRICS nations, is South America’s largest and most populous country and has the 9th largest economy globally.
Russia, the largest nation in the world by area, is the 11th largest economy and has the world’s largest natural gas reserves. India is the world’s 7th largest economy and is the second most populous country in the world. China is the world’s second-largest economy and is the most populous country in the world. South Africa is the most industrialized nation in Africa and the 28th largest economy in the world. Together, the BRICS nations account for 30% of the world’s total land mass, 40% of the world’s population, and 25% of the world’s GDP.
The alliance was formed in 2009 to promote economic growth and development, promote trade and investment, and encourage political and security cooperation among all five countries.
